Keep Track to Succeed!

This is pedometer is Consumer Reports #1 rated digital pedometer- and I can see why. It's extremely light weight and really easy to use with just four big buttons on the front. Here's a few of its best features:



-it can accurately senses steps in your belt pocket OR purse!

-it has a large display for the visually impaired

-it has a 7 day history so you can see progress (or lack of)

-it calculates calories and distance in addition to steps



I'd recommend this little device to anyone who wants to lose weight- just begin one day and the next day see if you can maintain or beat your previous step record. Now how easy is that?



So what DIDN'T I like about it? Not much. Perhaps the ONLY sort of negative thing I can say is that you will need a tiny screwdriver to open the back of it to put in the battery. Other than that if you're looking to increase your activity a little to improve your health look no further. Paid for itself many times over

Lost one pedometer (expensive one from my wife) the first week of wearing one. Got a leash and haven't lost one in months since though at least 4 times have found pedometer hanging from leash. The fact that I also wear a fanny pack while walking may increase my loss rate having that rubbing against it. So leash may be less essential for you than for me.More detail ...

Works as advertised

It works exactly how it should. And I'm going to respond to some comments that almost caused me not to buy the thing.



1. Can't get an accurate measure because of 1" intervals.



a) You're using it wrong. The intervals are to keep it from recoiling on it's own as you're pulling it out. When you press the button to recoil there are no intervals. (hint: read the directions) Also this gave the same measurements as a standard tape measure.



2. Broken out of the box bad clicking noise.



a) It's a feature not a defection. See answer above. You can also hold the button as you pull it out to avoid the clicking but release the button when you're done so it doesn't recoil before you're ready.



3. The pin keeps falling out.



a) I don't know if it was the company's intention but I see this as a feature. The only time it pops out is if the tape isn't straight and/or flush which would give an inaccurate measurement anyway.

Perfect Buy at this Price

The caliper is *great* and the myotape can be useful too. Both are easy to use.



Some reviews have said the caliper is too simple to be effective but they are mistaken. Their problem is not with the caliper but the way they are using it (see more below). This product is recommended by the pros and there is no reason to pay any more.



Caliper: It's a little tough to get a consistent reading but with practice it gets easier. The product has a great "click" feature so you can never push too hard. Do not use the instructions or the chart that comes with the product however as it will decrease the accuracy and consistency of your body fat measurements. A much more reliable method is to use the internet (see below).



Myotape: Very easy to use and good compliment to caliper.



How to maximize this product using the internet:

1) EXRX dot net has a page which lists the skinfold sites to measure under /Testing/BodyCompSites.html and a calculator page under /Calculators/BodyComp.html that will give you the appropriate fat %. I use the 3 site method since the 7 site method requires the help of another person and it's not necessarily that much superior anyway.

2) gain-weight-muscle-fast dot com /body-tape-measurements.html lists further regions to measure

3) Each time you measure (weekly monthly etc) do it the same time of day in the same exact spot. This will help minimize error.



Note the instructions which come with the caliper do work it's just that it isn't the best method which is why some fitness freaks were complaining. Consistency across measurements is the most important thing when measuring body fat and the suprailiac is terribly tough spot to hit consistently. Veer just a little off and the reading will change. But if you use the other method I listed these problems will be alleviated. Also the 3 site method is more accurate with minimal additional effort.More detail ...

As a primary care physician I've seen a lot of BP monitors that my patients bring to the office to check for accuracy and other features. This one seems to be the best. The easy to apply cuff auto inflation its accuracy the memory the averaging feature the AC converter all make it worth the slightly higher price over other Omrons which I consider the most accurate brand. Excellent pedometer and software

I think this is an excellent pedometer -- it does the job well and accurately. It counts your steps whether it is clipped on in your pocket or in a purse. The auto-reset to zero at midnight helps keep you honest. Like the software - a couple of clicks and your data is automatically uploaded. It shows your results on a daily weekly monthlyand annual basis. Omron is the only company I have seen that provides you with software.



I think the manual that comes with the device could be slightly improved but here are some tips that may help you with setting it up and using it for the first time:



(1) With the back cover off make note of the serial number. It is engraved into the case in tiny letters near the bottom. It is a six character mix of letters and numbers. You'll need this for registration later.



(2) Before starting to configure your pedometer you will need to calculate the length of your stride. Pick a starting point and walk 10 regular steps. Measure the distance in inches and divide by 10. Make a note of the result to use later.



(3) In the software I suggest setting modest "daily goals" to start. Adjust your goals up or down anytime through the software's Options menu as you get use to the pedometer.



(4) The "Set" button on the front is smaller than the others and is intended to be used occasionally to reset the time your weight etc. as needed - it does not reset or delete your step data. As a good practice upload your pedometer data regularly as a backup. In the unlikely event that the "Set" button is accidently pressed just press "Set" another 4 or 5 times and you'll come back to your normal "step" screen.



(5) Step count - this pedometer shows total steps (both aerobic and regular steps)in the "step" count screen. To see only the aerobic steps accomplished for the day go to the next screen. It keeps a separate count for aerobic steps (60 steps or more per minute continuously for 10 minutes or longer).



(6) While you can view the last 7 days of step data on the device itself it actually holds up to 42 days in memory. All data is viewable once uploaded to your pc.
